"(...) Prizmo est un logiciel abouti, qui comporte plusieurs bonnes idées bien implémentées. L’interface est intuitive, les fonctionnalités relativement complètes. Les résultats de l’OCR sont variables (souvent bons, voire très bons, mais parfois étonnamment médiocres), mais de toutes les façons difficiles à qualifier, car ils dépendent pour beaucoup de paramètres (qualité de la police de caractères, des conditions de prise de vue, de l’appareil…). Le logiciel met à disposition un maximum d’outils pour contrer au mieux ces problèmes. Prizmo n’est pas prévu pour faire de l’OCR en grosse série, quoique la mémorisation des différents paramètres peut y aider, mais plutôt pour récupérer l’information issue d’articles de la presse papier, de notes, pages de livres... pour les conserver et surtout les retrouver facilement ensuite via spotlight, par exemple. Et dans ce cadre, Prizmo a son rôle à jouer."

"(...) I tried the software on four different documents, all white paper with black text and attempted a number of different angled photographs. Happily and almost surprisingly they all worked perfectly.
The amount of image control in Prizmo is impressive for a $40 application and any further problems with recognition can be reduced by calibrating the software for your camera. Creaceed have also made it possible for users to swap their camera calibration files so there is no excuse for the perfect OCR.
This is a great application. If you have a phone camera it offers the ability to snap, edit and print whatever document is in front of you. The application couldn’t be easier to use with zero learning curve and even with the iPhone camera the software worked without issue. (...)"

As I frequently have the need to email documents such as receipts, Prizmo is an able companion to my MacBook Pro and it will help me get things done much quicker than if I had to wait till I am at home and in front of the scanner. (...)
Aside from the very utilitarian use I just described, I also tried Prizmo for some “fun” tasks. When my family travels, I like to take pictures of the plaques or signs that often accompany notable landmarks. Often the words on these signs get obscured due to the angle at which the photo is taken. Prizmo takes your angled signs and basically “flattens” them. I ran some of these pictures through Prizmo, with the goal of saving out “scans” of the content of the signs. I was pleased with the results, once again. Almost no processing was required at all on any of these pictures. The results are impressive. Prizmo brought out the text of these pictures, where the text was previously angled poorly, very small, or otherwise hard to read.

Of course, you could do a lot of the same tricks with Photoshop or some other tools, but Prizmo makes the process fast and easy, even for beginners. My personal opinion is that the price is on the high side, but considering that one of the other alternatives for doing this type of work involves purchasing and carrying a small scanner, it might be worth the cost.
