Movie Stiller

Versions

  • Can I use Movie Stiller with any iOS device?
You need an iPhone or iPad with video recording capability, i.e. iPod touch 4th Generation, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2 or iPad 3.

  • What do you mean by “universal app”?
When purchasing Movie Stiller, you can install and use it on any supported device. Let’s imagine you have an iPhone 4S and an iPad 2, you can use Movie Stiller on both devices after purchasing it only once. You don’t need to purchase it twice - once for your iPhone and once for your iPad - like you have to do with many other apps.
To make a long story short, by “universal app” we mean that a single application contains both versions (i.e. iPhone and iPad).

  • Is Movie Stiller compatible with iOS 3.x?
No, it isn't because Movie Stiller requires:
    • as hardware: an iPhone 3GS / iPhone 4 / iPhone 4S or an iPod touch 4th generation or an iPad 2 / iPad 3
    • as operating system: iOS 4.3 minimum.

  • Do you plan to release Movie Stiller for other mobile phones?
Creaceed is specialized in Mac and iPhone development. We started over 10 years ago to work with all Mac-related technologies (Cocoa, Objective-C, OpenGL...), and we think they are great. So, we want to go on this way.

  • Is Movie Stiller also available on computers?
Yes, it is. You can use Elasty for Mac on computers supporting Mac OS X 10.6 and higher. Movie stabilization is only one of its features. Other features are motion tracking, special effects, retiming... More information about Elasty for Mac here.

Stabilization Technique

  • What happens to the original movie? Is it replaced by the processed video in the album?
No, Movie Stiller outputs an additional video which is saved in the album next to the input video. As it doesn’t overwrite the original video, you can process it again after changing the settings.

  • Does Movie Stiller support Full HD content (1080p)?
Yes, it does. You will get really great results when processing movies recorded with an iPhone 4S or iPad 3.

  • When saving the processed video, is the HD resolution preserved?
Yes, it is the same resolution as the input video. The output movie isn’t of lower quality.

  • Is the output video larger than the input one?
No, they have the same pixel dimensions. Moreover, both videos have approximately the same file size (in bytes).

Updates

  • Are updates free?
Yes, they are. All bug fixes, additional UI localizations... are free.

  • You announced an update last week but I didn’t see any new version of Movie Stiller yet...
We usually announce updates when we submit them to Apple. Getting the latest version of an app approved and published on the App Store takes a few days. Unfortunately, we can’t do anything to make the process go faster.

Issues

  • Why are there black borders after stabilizing the video?
It is the result of the stabilization process, that needs to move the frame around to compensate motion. Movie Stiller analyzes the video, and automatically previews what the output movie would look like with the current settings applied. You can get rid of these borders by zooming in.

Remember you can change the stabilization strength in the settings. So, if there are really large black borders, we advise you to lower the stabilization strength value, and to apply the changes to the processed video.

  • Why can’t videos be longer than 10 minutes? Are you planning to remove this limitation in an update?
    Not at this time because:
    • Memory requirement can be high for longer movies, which is not suitable for processing on a phone.
    • Processing requires on average 2.5 times the movie duration, which can be a very long time for a video over 10 minutes.
    • You can trim the movie to process just the part that is needed.

Besides, as a computer is much more powerful than a mobile phone, we advise you to use our Mac application Elasty that does not have such limitation. It is more appropriate for this kind of work.
